/now · derek sivers stole this format

what i’m doing, dated so you know how stale this is.

i update this when something genuinely changes. if a section says the same thing next quarter, that’s the truth — not laziness. last updated Tuesday, September 1, 2026.

doing

  • shipping caduceus v1.0.x — daemon at v1.0.0, then a portable process-identity layer and a typed OCI execution contract. polish, it turns out, has versions.
  • keeping signal house honest by shipping a rewrite. v2.0.0 is live — one bun process for dashboard, api, poller, sqlite. the v2 line is now polish work, not new architecture.

learning

  • tokio internals in a way i can defend in a code review, not just nod at.
  • how to write a "roast my code" heuristic that doesn't feel like a linter cosplaying as a person.
  • that "boring tech wins" only holds if you've actually used the boring tech enough to be bored by it.

shipping

  • a /now page that doesn't go stale in three weeks (challenge: it will anyway). it did lol.
  • this site. v3. still has opinions.

bored of

  • tailwind utility chains that read like a sentence you have to translate from finnish.
  • “ai-powered” as a marketing word for a regex.
  • rate-limit headers that lie about the algorithm.
